Access It - 2008 Ceremony

2008 Ceremony

The 2008 Ceremony

On the 18th July 2008, the first of its kind ACCESS-IT awards ceremony took place in London Victoria. The event was held in the head office of MICROSOFT (UK), who also fully sponsored and supported the concept of ACCESS-IT.

The morning session involved discussions and debates from all who attended on sharing knowledge, views and experience by using the eAbilities tools (www.eabilities-eu.org). The eAbilities project gained much information, new stakeholder information and interaction from this session. New additional participants for the Virtual Lab were added and agreements made for future shared resources.

The event overall had over 200 applications of attendances, from 90 organisations ranging from countries all over the world. It was truly a global experience and one which will be repeated year after year.

We were fortunate enough to have in attendance, Nick Batey (European Commission), Matt Lambert (Director of Corporate Affairs, Microsoft), Julian Price (Head of Citizenship, Microsoft) and of course Francesca Martinez, the award winning comedian who gave an outstanding performance.

The award ceremony itself was a great success, highlighting the major achievements made throughout Europe that exist today in the field of AT and ICT for people with disabilities and the elderly.
